COMPANY
HISTORY
Lumber
Products was started in Portland, Oregon in 1938 as a family-owned
and operated company founded by Ernest E. Hall and his son, Ernest
L. Hall, after realizing that the millwork business they were in
needed wholesale distributors to get product to the end user. When
the founders stepped down from company management, Ernest L. Hall's
son, Leonard, took over as general manager until 1984, when his
son Peter became the third generation of the Hall family to lead
the company. Craig J. Hall, who represents the fourth generation,
joined the firm in 1989.
From the beginning, Lumber Products distributed high-quality hardwood
lumber and plywood to its customers. Since that time we have expanded
our product lines considerably to meet the changing needs of the
marketplace. We now distribute a large variety of building and construction
products, with clients that include pre-hung door companies, millwork
fabricators, and cabinet manufacturers, retail building material
outlets and O.E.M.'s.
As our business grew, we expanded our facilities and added distribution
branches that currently operate in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah,
Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada. Recently we established Dansu International
to address the market's growing demand for import millwork and specialty
wood products. We also acquired two subsidiaries, Components and
Millwork, Inc. and Sunrise Wood Products, to meet the increasing
need for materials that add value to the products we offer. We currently
employ over 600 employees at our various locations.
In 1986 we formed an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) to provide
our employees with an ownership interest in Lumber Products. Today,
while we are proud of our long tradition with the Hall family, we
are equally proud to be an employee-owned company. In 1991 we moved
our headquarters from the original Portland location to our current
location in Tualatin.
We are confident that Lumber Products will continue its role as
a leader in the building materials field. With over 60 years as
a family-owned and now an employee-owned company, we recognize the
vital role our employees play in achieving our goal of exceeding
customer expectations. As markets change, we intend to maintain
our standard of excellent customer service, providing value-added
products that increase profitability for our customers. |
